Solution

We redesigned Wheel as a streamlined cross-platform experience built around its unique matching logic: soft skills, values alignment, and video responses.

Broken navigation was repaired, manual data entry was introduced as a reliable fallback for failed integrations, and visual consistency was established across both mobile and desktop. The result is a balanced ecosystem where candidates move through a clear, accessible journey and employers get scalable, structured workflows for managing and evaluating talent.

Wireframes

Structural wireframes were created to map out all key screens, establish content hierarchy, and ensure a clear, intuitive user flow before any visual decisions were made.

This phase covered the full candidate journey from onboarding through job discovery, messaging, and profile management, alongside the employer-side dashboard structure. Wireframes allowed us to resolve navigation logic and information architecture early, reducing costly revisions in later stages.

Design Concepts

Two visual directions were developed and tested across core mobile screens, evaluated against contrast, hierarchy, and usability criteria.

The selected concept was chosen for its clarity, visual scalability, and alignment with Wheel's positioning as a professional yet approachable hiring platform. It provided a strong foundation for the high-fidelity build without compromising on readability or interaction quality.

High-Fidelity Design

The final interface bridges every functional gap identified in the audit while establishing a unified design system across mobile and desktop.

Font sizes were optimized for readability at every screen size. Interactive controls were repositioned for natural thumb reach on mobile. Previously broken navigation paths were fully activated. Flexible data entry options were introduced throughout the flow to ensure no user hits a dead end.

Visual style was synchronized across platforms, creating a professional, cohesive environment that works equally well for a candidate applying on their phone and an employer reviewing profiles on desktop.

Onboarding Flow

The onboarding is a structured 15+ screen journey that builds a rich candidate profile through interactive questions, value-based prompts, and professional data integration.

Rather than front-loading a form, the flow guides users through a conversational sequence that captures both hard credentials and softer signals like communication style and work preferences. The journey culminates in a "Strength Levels" visualization, giving candidates an immediate, personalized insight into their profile before they browse open roles. First impressions matter here: this moment sets the tone for how candidates perceive and trust the platform.

Home Page

The Opportunities screen is the central hub of the candidate experience, built around relevance over volume.

Rather than surfacing every available role, the feed prioritizes matches aligned with the candidate's profile, values, and soft skill indicators. The layout was designed to make the most important signal, fit, immediately readable at a glance, so users spend less time filtering and more time engaging with roles that actually suit them.

Messages

The Messages screen eliminates one of the most common friction points in modern hiring: communication fragmentation.

By centralizing real-time conversation between candidates and employers directly inside the platform, Wheel removes the need for external email threads or third-party tools. The interface keeps context intact, making it easy for both sides to track conversation history, next steps, and outstanding actions in one place.

Profile

The Profile screen reframes how candidates present themselves, shifting the focus from static credentials to demonstrated strengths and unique advantages.

The layout is designed to be scannable and confident, giving employers a clear picture of who the candidate is beyond their job titles. A dedicated "Unique Advantages" section bridges the gap between what a resume lists and what a person actually brings, helping candidates stand out in a way traditional profiles never could.

Desktop Interface for Employers

The employer-facing product was built as a light-themed desktop web application, reflecting the client's preference and the practical demands of data-heavy recruitment workflows.

Dashboards were designed for clarity at scale: hiring managers can review candidate pipelines, track application stages, and access communication history without cognitive overload. The light theme reinforces a professional, focused environment suited to extended work sessions and team collaboration.

Design System

A comprehensive design system was built to unify every visual and interactive decision across the product.

Color, typography, spacing, and component structure were standardized into a shared library covering both mobile and desktop contexts. Defined interaction states, hover, active, disabled, error, ensure predictable and consistent behavior throughout the experience. The component library is structured for efficient handoff and future scaling, giving the development team a reliable foundation to build from without reinterpreting design intent.

Result

The redesigned Wheel platform delivers a consistent visual language and a fully functional user journey across every screen and platform.

Candidates now move through a clear, trustworthy experience from onboarding to application. Employers gain a structured, scalable environment for finding and evaluating talent based on genuine fit. Together, the two sides of the platform fulfill Wheel's original vision: a hiring process that feels more human, more transparent, and more aligned with how people actually work.
